Charlotte, North Carolina is home to one of the South’s most thrilling amusement parks, Carowinds. Located on over 400 acres along the Carolina coast, Carowinds is home to some of the most hair-raising roller coasters in the country as well as a 27-acre water park, Carolina Harbor. From thrills on the 325-foot tall roller coaster to trips down the lazy river, there is something for everyone at Carowinds.
Carowinds opened on March 31, 1973. Today, the park boasts 14 roller coasters and ranks 5th in the world for the most roller coasters in one park. The star attraction is Fury 325, a 325-foot tall roller coaster traveling at 95 m.p.h., the world’s tallest and fastest giga roller coaster. For more heart-pounding excitement, try the heights of the Carolina Sky Tower, Windseeker, or Drop Tower, and wonder at the beautiful vistas of the Charlotte scenery.
Fun For The Whole Family
Carowinds has attractions for the whole family, including the County Fair Midway and vintage rides like the Do-Si-Do, Rock ‘N’ Roller, and Zephyr. Small kids will enjoy the kids’ section, Camp Snoopy, riding on Snoopy’s Junction train, or Charlie Brown’s Wind Up Carousel. And Beagle Scout Acres, an 8,000 square foot playground, has slides, sandboxes, and seesaws for all the littles.
One of Carowinds’ newest additions is a massive water park, Carolina Harbor, featuring giant water slides, wave pools, and water play structures. Boogie Board Racer, a 2021 coming attraction, is the longest mat racing slide in the Southeast, delivering high-speed exhilaration with six water slides. There’s even a 27,000 square-foot wave pool, Surf Club Harbor. Treat a private party by renting a private cabana for six friends, and enjoy a ceiling fan, satellite T.V., mini-fridge, and more!
Seasonal Amusements and Accommodations
Carowinds also has seasonal events for the whole family. From September to the first weekend in November, The Great Pumpkin Fest stars Snoopy and the Peanuts gang. And during the Halloween event, SCarowinds, most of the park rides turn into a haunted experience with over 500 monsters. Carowinds also offers a winter event, WinterFest, which features Christmas decorations, tree lighting, Christmas carolers, homemade crafts, a parade, and select rides.
Any time of year, you may enjoy the delicious Southern dining options at Harbor House, the water park’s centrally located dining hall. Menu items include hand-breaded chicken tenders, hand-pulled smoked pork, and fried shrimp. Grab and go options are also available.
After a day at the park, you can rest at the all-new SpringHill Suites Charlotte at Carowinds with amenities like discounted park tickets for registered guests, complimentary high-speed internet service, and complimentary breakfast, not to mention a short walk to Carowinds.
