Steps When Detailing a Car 

Whether you want to clean your car yourself or have it detailed by an auto detailer, there are several steps that will help your car look great and last longer. These steps include cleaning, repairing, and buffing your car’s exterior paint. 

First, thoroughly wash your car’s exterior with a soapy solution, then rinse it well to remove any dirt and grime. Make sure you use a soap designed for the car’s exterior. Then, dry your vehicle thoroughly with a microfiber towel or chamois. Don’t let the soap water air-dry, as that can cause spots and residue to form on your vehicle’s surfaces.

Finally, wipe down your dash and console, including the steering wheel, with a microfiber cloth. For a thorough wipe-down, make sure you don’t miss any hard-to-reach corners. Try a wood skewer or cotton swab, which are both great tools for reaching small areas. 

When you’re finished, vacuum your car to get rid of any remaining loose dirt and debris. You can also use your vacuum’s crevice tool to blast out dust and debris in tight areas. 

After your car’s interior has been completely scrubbed, it’s time to prep its exterior for a detailing treatment. This means making sure you have everything you need to do the job right, and that the place where you’re working is safe and secure for everyone involved. 

You’ll need a car detailing brush, wheel brush, and wash mitts to complete the job. If you don’t have them already, pick them up at any local auto parts store. 

If you have a lot of mud and dirt on your car, you might also want to invest in an auto detailing kit, which includes specialized soaps and foams. These products can easily remove deep stains and scuff marks on your car’s clear coat. 

Another essential item you’ll need for a successful detailing job is a microfiber cleaning cloth and a non-ammonia glass cleaner. This will help you remove any smudges or streaks on your windows, and the chamois will allow the glass to dry without leaving behind any residue. 

Once your exterior is cleaned and dried, you’ll be ready to apply a coat of polish or wax. This will protect your paint, and give it a shiny look.
