Charlotte, North Carolina is a fascinating place to visit, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the arts district of downtown Charlotte, specifically, The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. Opened in 1992 and designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli, the Performing Arts Center is comprised of three theaters: the Booth Playhouse, Stage Door Theater, and Belk Theater.

Named for the Belk Brothers Company which donated the land for the site in uptown Charlotte, the theater features a contemporary European horseshoe-shaped seating arrangement that provides an intimate atmosphere and exceptional acoustics. The most distant seat is less than 135 feet from the stage.

Accessible and Adaptable Spaces

The theater is famous for its 2,400 “points of light” in the audience chamber, a scintillating multi-color fiber-optic network of lights. Belk Theater features state-of-the-art sound equipment and production capabilities and can host any type of event, from grand opera to rock to corporate meetings and lectures.

The theater is accessible to patrons in wheelchairs. Most restrooms and water fountains are wheelchair accessible, and restrooms are equipped with audio alarm systems. In addition, certain performances are audio described for the blind or visually impaired with a headset available free of charge. Large print programs are available at many performances for visually impaired patrons, and certain performances at the Performing Arts Center are interpreted for the hearing impaired.

An Intimate Theater Experience

A preferred parking pass is available at Belk Theater’s designated parking garage for only $5, not available the day of the production. Purchase your parking pass in advance. The best public transit for the Center includes the CTC/Arena Station Light Rail Line.

Upcoming performances include An Evening with Gregory Porter, Grammy-nominated Jazz Male Vocalist; I Dream, a musical drama about Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King’s last days; and the Village People, a renowned disco group from the ‘80s. In addition, Manheim Steamroller is expected to perform in the holiday season of 2021.
